CBD Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma)

CBD Cancer Treatment

What is CBD Cancer?

CBD Cancer refers to cancer of the Common Bile Duct (Cholangiocarcinoma). It is a rare but serious condition in which malignant cells develop in the bile ducts that carry bile from the liver to the small intestine. This cancer can block bile flow and affect liver function.

What causes CBD Cancer?

While the exact cause may not always be known, certain risk factors increase the chances of developing bile duct cancer. Early diagnosis is essential for effective treatment.

Risk Factors

  • Chronic bile duct inflammation
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)
  • Bile duct cysts
  • Liver cirrhosis
  • Parasitic liver infections
  • Advanced age

Symptoms of CBD Cancer

  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (Jaundice)
  • Dark urine and pale stools
  • Persistent itching
  • Abdominal pain (upper right side)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Loss of appetite

Diagnosis

Diagnosis may include blood tests, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, MRCP, ERCP, and biopsy. Imaging tests help determine the location and stage of the tumor.

Treatment Options

  • Surgical Removal: The most effective treatment if diagnosed early.
  • Liver Resection: Removal of affected portion of liver.
  • Whipple Procedure: In selected cases.
  • Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy
  • Biliary Stenting: To relieve bile duct blockage.

Why Early Treatment is Important?

CBD cancer often progresses silently in early stages. Timely diagnosis and expert surgical care significantly improve survival rates and quality of life.
